Our foundation is dedicated to providing support to motherless homes, less privileged individuals, and those in need. We offer assistance in the form of monetary aid, donated goods, and financial resources. Requests are considered and disbursed accordingly, guided by our mission and records." "We endeavor to assist individuals in need by reaching out for help and support. Once received, we allocate resources based on our records and in line with our mission For many years, Feed the Poor Foundation (FTP) has been dedicated to assisting homeless individuals and families by providing them not only with housing but also with vital food support services. In response to the dual crises of hunger and housing, compounded by the impacts of mass incarceration and family separation, FTP has rolled out a series of evidence-based programs. These programs focus on sustainable food distribution, nutrition education, and trauma-informed approaches to holistically address the needs of those we serve. Moreover, leadership development and advocacy projects are crucial components of our work, aimed at amplifying the voices of those most affected by systemic issues in policy advocacy and civic engagement, thereby promoting broader societal change towards eliminating hunger.
INNOVATION
Nourishing Futures 1Our Food Security and Nutritional Assistance project, at FTPF, is designed to aid low-income families, especially women, in accessing nutritious food, understanding dietary health, and developing sustainable food solutions. By focusing on education in nutrition and culinary skills, we provide the tools needed to break generational cycles of food insecurity. This initiative also fosters financial literacy and entrepreneurship related to food businesses. Funded by the California Wellness Foundation, this project's evaluation reported that 85% of the 50 women we served improved their family's nutritional habits, 4 food-related small businesses were launched, and 75% successfully managed their food budgets over a 12-year period.
Nourishing Futures 2Addressing Hunger and Health is our core mission in the NF II project, which targets the root causes of food insecurity among previously incarcerated women. Beginning in prisons and jails, we prepare women with a transition plan that includes nutritional support, housing, and job training in the food industry post-release. After five years, our evaluations show a significant improvement in access to consistent, healthy meals for the 215 women served. This project, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, aligns with the National Institute of Health’s understanding of the link between chronic health issues and food insecurity.
Rights, Equality, and Nutrition (R.E.N.)Access to Nutritional Rights is critical as we challenge the systems that perpetuate food deserts and unequal access to healthy food options for women of color. For many, this initiative provides the first opportunity to learn about their nutritional rights and the governmental programs available to them. Our project facilitates direct legal and advocacy support by placing a dedicated attorney within our agency to help navigate these rights, aiming to remove barriers to accessing adequate nutrition
Positive Nutritional Futures & Family Health (PNFFH)Our Positive Nutritional Futures & Family Health (PNFFH) program aims to disrupt the cycles of poor health by incorporating evidence-based nutritional services and support systems. We provide women and their families with safe environments to learn about healthy eating, heal from past nutritional neglect, and foster the resilience needed to handle health challenges. The TFCF emphasizes a multi-generational approach to well-being, addressing the nutritional needs of the entire family unit to ensure a healthier future.
